Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

RepairAlmanac ("we," "us") publishes local home-repair cost estimates. If you ask to be matched with a contractor, we sell your request to a lead buyer, which distributes it to independent contractors who contact you. This policy explains what personal information we collect, that we sell it, and your choices.

2. Information we collect

• Contact and project details you submit to be matched with a contractor: name, phone, email, full street address and ZIP code, and the repair you selected.
• Consent record: the exact consent language you agreed to, its version, a timestamp, and your IP address.
• Technical data: IP address and a bot-verification (Cloudflare Turnstile) result to prevent abuse.

Using the cost calculator and browsing the site do not require you to submit any personal information.

3. How we use it

To fulfill the contractor match you consented to (by selling your details to a lead buyer, see section 4), to prevent spam and abuse, to keep records required by law, and to operate and improve the site.

4. How we share and sell your information

If you consent, we sell your contact and project details to a lead buyer or lead network, which may in turn distribute them to one or more independent contractors who then contact you. We do not choose which contractor receives your information or contacts you, and a contractor may share it further within its own network.

This is a "sale" of personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and a "sale" under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA). We are paid for it - it is how the site is funded. We do not sell your information for any purpose other than the contractor matching you request, and we never sell it unless you affirmatively consent.

5. Our role: we are a "controller"

We decide what personal information is collected and why, so we act as a "controller"(VCDPA) / "business" (CCPA/CPRA) with respect to it. The lead buyer we sell to is a separate, independent third party and becomes the controller of your information once it receives it - its use of your information is governed by its own privacy policy, not this one, and we do not control what it or downstream contractors do with it.

6. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live (including under the CCPA/CPRA in California and the VCDPA in Virginia), you may have the right to:

• Confirm whether we process your personal data, and access it;
• Correct inaccuracies, or delete it;
• Obtain a portable copy of it;
• Opt out of the sale of your personal information; and
• Opt out of processing for targeted advertising or profiling.

To exercise any of these, see Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Informationor email privacy@repairalmanac.com. We will respondwithin 45 days (extendable once by another 45 days where reasonably necessary, in which case we will tell you why).

7. If we decline your request, you can appeal

If we refuse to act on your request, we will tell you why. You may then appeal by emailingprivacy@repairalmanac.comwith the subject line "Privacy request appeal." We will respond to the appeal within 60 days. If we deny the appeal, we will provide you a method tosubmit a complaint to the Virginia Attorney General.

8. Data retention

We keep consent and lead records for at least five years to meet legal and evidentiary requirements, and we maintain opt-out (Do Not Contact) suppression records as required by law. Suppression records are kept even if you ask us to delete other data, so that we can continue to honor your opt-out.

9. Security

Records are stored in access-controlled infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
